Senegal national team head coach Aliou Cisse will on Friday, November 12, 2022, name the squad for the World Cup finals, which the Teranga Lions will be taking part for the second time in a row.
The 2022 World Cup will kick off on November 20 until December 18 in Qatar, ahead of which Senegal Football Federation (FSF) has lined countdown friendlies to knock the Teranga Lions into shape before the tournament.
A statement issued by FSF on Wednesday; “ National team head coach Aliou Cisse will face the press this Friday, November 11, 2022 at 10am for the publication of the list of Senegal players selected for the 2022 World Cup.”
Senegal breezed through the group stage of CAF qualification for the 2022 World Cup, topping their section and going unbeaten to set up a playoff clash with rivals Egypt in March 2022.
Bayern Munich star, Sadio Mane scored the winning penalty in nerve-jangling shootouts, sending Aliou Cisse’s team to just its third World Cup, where they will look to at least match their memorable quarter-final showing in 2002.
The two-time African Footballer of the Year, Mane is a key player for African champions and remains his nation’s record goal scorer.
However, Mane remains doubtful for the World Cup after sustaining a leg injury for playing for Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
Senegal will arrive at the tournament confident of progressing from the group stages having finally being crowned champions of Africa at the start of this year, and once into the knockouts, no country would relish facing them.
The Teranga Lions will start their campaign on November 21 against Netherlands, followed by games against the host nation Qatar and Ecuador.
