Sadio Mane Ruled Out Of 2022 World Cup

Senegal star Sadio Mane will miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following an injury suffered before the tournament.

The Bayern Munich player picked a shin injury while playing for his club earlier this month but was named in World Cup squad in the hope he could regain shape.

The 30-year-old has since undergone a successful surgery, where his tendon was reattached to the head of his right fibula.

Mane’s club Bayern Munich has confirmed that the medical operation was conducted by Prof Christian Fink and Dr Andy Williams in Germany on Thursday.

“The forward will therefore no longer be available to play for Senegal at the World Cup and will begin his rehab in Munich in the next few days,” the club confirmed.

Senegal Football Federation president Augustin Seghor told reporters on Thursday that the nation was ready for the medical report since health of a player comes first.

“We have been ready for this since the news of his injury,” said Senghor.

“We had been waiting for new test results and when they came in we all agreed his health had to come first.”

Senegal will start their campaign on November 21 against Netherlands, followed by games against the host nation Qatar and Ecuador.
