Ghana coach Atto Addo said he was leaving his job after his side were eliminated from 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Friday.
The 47-year-old has been in-charge of the Black Stars since June and his contract was due to run out after the tournament.
“I said before, it was clear I would stop after the World Cup. At the moment, me and my family see our future in Germany, I like my role at Dortmund,” Addo said after Ghana exited the tournament following a 2-0 loss to Uruguay at the Al Janoub Stadium.
Addo, who works as “talent coach” at the Bundesliga club, had been appointed in March on interim role. His position was confirmed after he ensured that Ghana secured qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the expense of Nigeria.
“I said I would resign after the World Cup even if we were world champions,” Addo added.
A source at Ghana Football Federation told Ducor Sports on Saturday that the FA will confirm a new coach in “near future.”
Addo had returned to Black Stars fold after featuring for the side between 1999 and 2006 during his playing days, the highlight being his appearance at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
He began his coaching career while at the twilight of his playing career with Hamburg in 2007 where he worked as a player-coach, mainly helping the youth side.
In 2017, Addo left for Danish fold Nordsjaelland where he worked as assistant coach, before moving back to Germany to take up another assistant coaching role with Borussia Monchengladbach.
In 2019, he returned to Dortmund where he played between 1999 and 2005, but this time as an assistant coach and has since been with The Black and Yellows.
