Enock Mwepu Discharged From Hospital

Former Zambia and Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Enock Mwepu was on Wednesday discharged from hospital, where he was taken after falling ill.

Mwepu was taken to a hospital in Lusaka, Zambia, with reports from the southern African country alleging that he collapsed and had suffered a suspected heart attack on Sunday.

“I can confirm that Enoch Mwepu was discharged from the Lusaka Heart Hospital this morning (Wednesday); he will continue his recuperation from home,” confirmed Prof. Kasonka, Zambia’s Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary.

Mwepu had to give up football in October 2021 because of a heart condition that medical professionals deemed life-threatening.

The 25-year-old striker was appointed coach of Brighton and Hove Albion Under -9 at the start of this year.

On Monday, his employer updated the former star’s health condition: “Enock was unwell in Zambia and is currently undergoing precautionary checks.

“Our medical team communicates with the hospital to assist if required.”

Mwepu won the 2016 COSAFA U20 Cup and the 2017 U20 AFCON as hosts during his playing career.

The player was part of the Zambia team that reached the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup quarterfinals in South Korea.

Mwepu was discovered in Zambia when he turned out for first-division side Kafue Celtics, where he scored seven goals in 29 appearances.

He moved to Europe in 2017 from Kafue Celtics and joined Austrian champions RB Salzburg, where he scored 16 goals in the five seasons he spent at the club.

He switched to Brighton in the summer of 2021, for whom he has scored two league goals.

Mwepu was a regular for the Zambia national team since debuting in September 2017 during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria.
