Kenya’s ‘All Star’ team succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Hull City in the highly anticipated friendly game that took place on February 27 at the KCOM stadium.
The game was even for 20 minutes or so with Hinchcliffe shooting wide and Makwata seeing a penalty appeal turned down. The first goal came from Hull City’s Elliot Holmes with the substitute heading home Stephen Akbas’ cross into the net.
‘All Stars’’ Makwata was a threat at the front as he came close to equalizing only to be denied by Charlie Andrew. The second half saw the Kenyan outfit attacking more with Wanga and Makwata testing Andrew from close range.
Hull City’s second came when Haron Shakava sliced the ball into his own net. The two-goal deficit didn’t deter the ‘All Stars’ from trying their luck. Humphrey Mieno came close when he headed from the six-yard box but his efforts eventually paid off when he sent a long-range shot into the back of the net. The ‘All Stars’ were beaten but not disgraced.
Hull City fielded a majority from its U-23s, U-18 and U-16 whereas the ‘All Stars’ kept most of the younger players on the bench with the hope of seeing more young talent in the replay in July in Kenya.
