“So happy and the event could not have gone better, huge thanks to MACCA and the whole team at Super League.”
The Eliminator format (swim, bike and run with a 10-minute break between each) was used through the three stages with athletes vying for a top-15 finish position to progress to stage two.
Murray didn’t do so well in stage one but was able to stay in top 15 however stage two saw the athletes battle for top 10 but it was Norwegian kristian Bluumenfelt that led the pack across the finish line, to claim his second stage win of the day.
At the start of stage three, Murray stood atop the overall leaderboard with 40 points and his closest rival, at 31 points.
This meant that he needed a seventh place finish or better, to guarantee the South African the title.
Murray finished third in the Eliminator and the victories in Triple mix and Equalizer made him the overall winner with 56 out of the 56 points across the three days.
The other two runner-up winners that made the podium were Mario Mola (49) points and Birtwhistle (48) points.
