Arsenal to Re-consider Riyad Mahrez After Losing Out on Thomas Lemar

Arsenal is re-considering its interest in Leicester City playmaker Riyad Mahrez, after having its bid for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar knocked back according to the Telegraph.

The Gunners saw their £30 million opening bid for Lemar turned down yesterday, with Monaco giving no signs of willingness to part ways with its 21-year-old wonder starlet.

With Bernardo Silva already at Manchester City, Tiemoue Bakayoko on the verge of joining Chelsea, and Kylian Mbappe’s future uncertain, Monaco seems to have closed the gates on an inevitable exodus.

Despite submitting a better £45 million offer earlier today, Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal hierarchy feel it’s better to start pursuing other targets.

The London club has re-ignited its long-standing interest in the 26-year-old Algerian international who already blatantly told Leicester that ‘he wants to move.’

The former PFA Player of the Year joined the Foxes for £350,000 from French side Le Havre in January 2013 and has made 138 appearances to see his value rise to an estimated £45 million.

Leicester City was initially demanding for a figure close to £50 million last year but after a stale season at the King Power and considering the player’s request to leave last month, the club is most likely to agree to a much lesser fee.

Arsenal will be facing competition from Chelsea, Tottenham, and Marseille who are all monitoring the winger’s situation.
