Ghana’s Up and Rising Lethal Goal-getter Sinks Opponents

Black Stars’ forward Raphael Dwamena, was his finest after banging in two goals to send Grasshopper FC packing on Sunday.

Tipped to succeed aging striker Asamoah Gyan in the not-so-distant-future, the 21-year-old is living up to expectations and got the chance to show what he’s capable of when his newly promoted Zurich side met Grasshopper FC.

In what was Zurich’s opening league match of the season in Switzerland’s Super League, it took Dwamena 23 minutes to notch in his first of the new campaign.

The erstwhile Austria Lustenau man spread a pass out wide before racing into the box to connect with a teasing cross from the right and gift Zurich a first-half lead.

A domineering Zurich picked up from where they left off in the first half, however, it wasn’t until nine minutes from game’s end that the Ghanaian doubled the lead with a Messi-like effort.

The towering black star beat his marker after intercepting a pass before cleverly placing the ball into the back of the net with his favored left foot from outside the box.

Teammate and Gambian defender Pa Modou Jagne, got a booking as Zurich got off to a flying start away at the Stadion Letzigrund, watched by 20,000 spectators.

Zurich is intent on reclaiming its place as one of the Super league’s greats following a poor campaign that led to a demotion to the second tier in 2016.

Dwamena now leads the scoring log and could better a previous season best of 12 goals scored in the second tier.
