Simba Sports Club on Friday announced midfielder Bernard Morrison will miss the remaining league matches as sign that the Tanzanian side are preparing for life without the Ghanaian international.
The 28-year-old current contract is set to expire on June 30 and the club is on the mission of cutting costs, as they are willing to pay him $100,000 only over a three-year period in a new contract.
Simba has since released a statement indicating that the winger has been sent on leave until the end of the season for reasons they did not disclose.
“We recognize and appreciate Morrison’s contribution in the two years he has served our club and helped us achieve several successes in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations twice,” the statement said.
“Winning the Mainland Premier League, the ASFC Cup and the Mapinduzi Cup, with this contribution and success the club thanks Morrison for his commitment to fighting for his club.”
Morrison has since confirmed that he will be out of the reminder of the season but failed short to mention that contract renewal talks have stalled.
“It with heavy heart to announce that I will be out for the remainder of the season due to family issues that are beyond my control and might affect my performance for the team if represent the club.A lot needs to be said about it but I can only wish the club the best of luck,” he tweeted.
Morrison joined Simba SC in 2020 from their rivals Yanga on a two-year contract and his contract was to end in June.
He previously turned for South African Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates, Ghanaian Premier League outfit AshantiGold and Democratic Republic Congo side AS Vita Club in summer 2015.
