Abdelmounaim Boutouil: Sundowns Finally Unveil Moroccan Defender

Mamelodi Sundowns have finally confirmed the arrival of Moroccan international  Abdelmounaim Boutouil three months after signing him.

The 24-year-old signed a three-year contract, with an option to extend for another two years,in July but had to wait for his move to officially go through on deadline day.

His absence from training had left many Masandawana fans wondering but on Thursday, the club confirmed his arrival on their social media pages ahead of their upcoming Dstv Premiership game against Orlando Pirates.

“From Morocco South Africa with continental aspirations! Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil has joined the Yellow Nation on a 5-year deal!”

On their official website, the Boutouil said: “I am feeling very happy to join one of the biggest clubs in Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns. My goal is to win all the local cups in the PSL and what’s very important for me and for the club is winning the Champions League.

“ I am the first Moroccan player to come play in South Africa, [therefore] I am here to represent my country as a Sundowns player.”

Boutouil was previously on the books of Moroccan professional league Botola Pro side, SCC Mohammédia.

He had a short loan spell at the home of three-time African champions Raja Casablanca before returning back to his mother club, Mohammédia.

The talented left-center back is highly rated as one of the most technically gifted defenders in the Botola Pro league and will form part of Bafana Ba Style’s title defense campaign.

In recent times, the Moroccan played a significant role in helping his nation win the 2020 African Nations Championship(CHAN) title in Cameroon.
