Ablie Jallow Makes History for a Gambian with the Most Minutes in French Ligue 1

Youngster Ablie Jallow, on Friday night, made a landmark feat for a Gambian with the most minutes in the French top tier. The captain of Gambia’s U-20 team, Jallow joined FC Metz from Senegalese football league champions, Academy Generation Foot in June 2017.

Signed on a long-term contract until 2022, it was first thought that the attacking left-footed midfielder would begin his craft with the club’s reserves but coach Hinscberger recognized the lad’s brilliance, allowing him to join the A-team during the pre-season.

The ex-Gambia Ports Authority forward soon convinced the coaches of his worth, earning him a call-up to the starting line up on Friday in a game where he was later substituted after 72 minutes, by 20-year-old Mathieu Udol.

The 18-year-old winger may have found his mark after an unsuccessful attempt to land a deal while on trial with Serie A club, Chievo Verona in 2014 and becomes the second Gambian to be signed by Metz after Alieu Jatta.

Defensive midfielder Abdourahman Dampha is the first Gambian-export to play in the French Ligue 1 after coming on as a substitute for AS Nancy with a minute to the end of full-time, three years ago.
