AFC Leopards Coach Resigns Citing Unpaid Salary

Andre Casa Mbungo has resigned as coach of Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards over unpaid salary.

Andre Casa Mbungo has resigned as coach of Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards over unpaid salary.

Leopards are currently in deep financial crisis and are only relying on well-wishers to honour their matches.

Mbungo submitted his resignation letter to the club management on Saturday afternoon and cited five months unpaid arrears as his reason for leaving the club.

“I had highlighted my plight with the management for quite some time but they seem not to be keen to pay me. I have been patient enough but it’s time to quit the club. I wish them best of luck,” he said.

The Rwandan coach was appointed to take over from Serbian Marko Vasiljevic in February, following the team’s dismal start to the Kenyan Premier League season.

He had signed an 18-month contract with the club after quitting Rwandan top-flight side S.C. Kiyovu Sports.

Assistant coach Antony Kimani, who joined the club in March this year, takes over in a caretaker role.

AFC Leopards are currently placed 8th on KPL table and they will face Tusker FC on Sunday at Machakos Stadium.
