AFC Leopards fans have been urged to be patient following the 4-1 loss to arch-rivals Gor Mahia in the Kenyan Premier League match played on Sunday 10 November at Kasarani Stadium.
Ingwe looked on course for a win following their first-half display, but Gor Mahia kept fighting in the second stanza and were rewarded with four goals netted by Gislain Yikpe, Clifton Miheso and Lawrence Juma.
Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda was clearly disappointed with the three points dropped, but says it’s not the worst result in the world.
“As your chair, this match was important for our resurgence programs but we suffered a major setback,” Shikanda told the club website. “I believe as a team we prepared well and played our first half very well only for the team to collapse in the second half.”
“ I have taken stock of the lessons learnt from the Sunday’s performance and have met a number of stakeholders in regards to what they think went wrong and we are working on a way forward as we conclude this exercise in the course of this week,” he revealed.
Shikanda has urged patience from the Ingwe supporters, saying that it won’t take time for the team to find their rhythm.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “Let me take this opportunity to reaffirm to our fans, members and supporters that we are still firmly in the competition as we had earlier agreed and we are in this to compete and not just to participate.” [/perfectpullquote]
Shikanda added: “Let’s all remain focused in reviving the team and returning it to where it belongs. It is important to note that we are all collectively responsible for our team and we should continue supporting it as it needs all of us.”
The result saw Leopards drop to the seventh position with 15 points from four wins, three draws and two losses. Ingwe will play Bandari on Thursday afternoon in Mombasa’s Mbaraki Stadium.
