Russian club Spartak Moscow have announced that Liberian forward Sylvanus Nimely has been invited for the Lone Star’s game against Congo Brazzaville in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The announcement was published on the club’s official website on Tuesday, September 25.
Liberia is expected to travel to Brazzaville, Congo for their third match in Group G on October 11 and later play the return leg on October 16, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, Liberia.
“The red-white forward will be with his national team from 7 to 17 October. Thus, “Spartak-2” will not be able to count on Nimely in the first division match against “Tambov” on October 13,” the announcement reads.
Nimely was among the 11 foreign-based players invited for Liberia’s previous group stage match against DR Congo that ended in a one-all draw at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville Liberia.
The 20-year-old featured in the match after he was introduced in the 58th minute, replacing forward Tonia Tisdell.
Upon his return to club duty, Nimley helped Spartak Moscow II to secure a 3-0 victory over FC Krasnodar II in the Russian Football National League (FNL). He was also included Spartak Moscow’s senior team 19-man squad that defeated Chernomorets 1-0 yesterday (September 26).
Although the Liberia Football Association has not released the full list of foreign players invited for the Congo clash, this latest announcement from the Russian club is a confirmation that the 20-year-old will be a part of the Lone Star’s delegation to Congo.
Liberia will be hoping to secure their first win in the group after collecting a point from two games.
Zimbabwe remain top of the Group G on goal difference with four points out of two games (level on points with DR Congo), while Liberia and Congo Brazzaville remain at the bottom of the group with one point each.
