The Gambia national team head coach Tom Sainfiet has named his 40-man squad ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon from January 9.
Most of the players in the team are those who helped them to qualify for their maiden appearance in African football showcase after winning Group D of the qualifiers ahead of Gabon, DR Congo and Angola.
Dembo Darboe and Yusupha Bobb lead the squad that also has AS Roma midfielder Ebrima Darboe and Italy-based duo of Omar Colley and Musa Barrow as well as former Swansea City forward Modou Barrow.
Left out of the pre-selection were Momodou Bojang, influential midfielder Hamza Barry who was recently in the books of Croatian outfit Hadjuk Split and Etoile du Sahel’s Adama Jammeh.
The Scorpions gaffer will trim his squad to 28 players before the start of the tournament on 9 January 2022 in Cameroon.
The Gambia will play their opening match on 12 January 2022 when they take on Mauritania before facing Mali and Tunisia.
No plans have yet been announced for pre-tournament preparations.
