The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Wednesday afternoon yielded some surprising results as African countries continue their quest to qualify for the continental showpiece in 2022.
The shock result of the latest games saw Ethiopia beat Madagascar 4-0 in a match Group K played the Bahir Dar Stadium.
Amanauel Gebremichael, Getaneh Kebede, Abubeker Nassir and Shimelis Bekele scored for the Walias in each half to inflict the Bareas’ second loss of the qualifying campaign.
Ethiopia and Madagascar went into the match with just a point apart in third and second place respectively, with result now almost determining who joins group favorites Ivory Coast in the qualification.
Burkina Faso qualified for the tournament from Group B despite being held to a goalless draw by Uganda in a match played at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kampala.
The Stallions leads the way with 9 points followed by Uganda on eight points while Malawi, who beat South Sudan 1-0 are third with seven points.
Sudan kept their slim qualification hopes alive after a 2-0 win away to bottom-placed Sao Tome and Principe Group C.
Mohammed Abdelraham and Saif Eldin Terry found the back of the net respectively hence pushing Sao Tome out of the qualification.
In Kigali, Rwanda registered their first Group F win after beating Mozambique 1-0 in a match played at Stade Regional de Nyamirambo.
Host leaders Cameroon, who sit six points clear, will play Cape Verde in the other group match that will be played on Friday.
