AFCON U-20: Nigeria Coach Aigbogun Targets FIFA U-20 World Cup

Junior Super Eagles coach Paul Aigbogun is one of one of the coaches that have gone to Niger with a focus beyond the continental tournament.

With the set rule that the top four teams from the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will automatically qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, some of the participating teams appear not to have much interest in winning the continental tournament.

Junior Super Eagles coach Paul Aigbogun is one of one of the coaches that have gone to Niger with a focus beyond the continental tournament.

In his pre-match press conference, coach Aigbogun said, “Our main objective is to qualify for the World Cup. For our match against Burundi, we have no pressure and there is nothing special since we are prepared and ready for the occasion.”

The ‘Flying Eagles’ were among seven teams that got a bid to the Second Round and later defeated Guinea-Bissau (3-2) and Mauritania (6-1) in the second and third rounds respectively.

The seven times Africa Youth Championship winners are paired along with Burundi, host Niger and South Africa in Group A and will take on Burundi later today in their opening match.
