The African Champions League first round second leg match between Al Hilal Omdurman has been cancelled due to a reported spike in coronavirus positive cases.
The match had been scheduled to take place at Al Hilal Stadium in Sudan on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Match Commissioner, Kotoko did not have the recommended number of players to have the game taken as seven players tested positive of the deadly virus.
However, the Ghanaian giants have disputed the results as they suspect a foul play by Sudan medical authorities and Al Hilal officials.
“Al Hilal Covid-19 test results were mixed up with our results and a Covid result of one Asante Kotoko player conspicuously missing,” Kotoko wrote on their official Twitter handle.
“The two different Covid result sample. The negative results are different from the “ typed letter” format of the Positive Covid results,” the club added.
CAF rules states that a match must be played if the team has at least 11 players including the goalkeeper and four substitutes.
The African football governing body’s Covid-19 regulations adds that if a team does not have the minimum number of players (11 players including the goalkeeper) and four substitutes to play a match the team will be considered to have lost the match 2-0.
The decision means Al Hilal Omdurman have progressed to the African Champions League group stages on a 3-0 aggregate.
The Porcupine Warriors lost by a solitary goal in the first-leg match that was played at Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana a fortnight ago.
