AS Bouengunidi head coach Brice Ondo is confident the club will register a positive result against TP Mazembe.
The Gabonese champions will be at home in Libreville for the first leg of the second preliminary round in the African Champions League to the five-time continental champions, targeting a result that will put them in a prime position to advance to the group stage.
The experienced gaffer is confident they can break a duck as they will be well-prepared for the match.
“We’re going to keep working because I think that only work pays off. We will face TP Mazembé, they are one of the biggest clubs on the continent. As we keep saying, we take the matches one after the other. We are going to learn against TP Mazembé but always coming out of there with the feeling of having given everything,” Ondo told reporters.
The tactician says they have picked lessons in their African Champions League preliminary round against Forest Rangers where they were able to win 2-0 on aggregate.
Bouengunidi created chance after chance especially in the first leg in Ndola, but failed to utilize the opportunities away.
“To play two matches especially already that of Ndola where we played against a team which was at home was not easy. I say bravo to my players because, it’s been two games without scoring goals and against Mazembé, we will fight hard as we can,” he noted.
Ondo has been working to polish his forward line to ensure they finish the tie in the first leg and make the return tie on January 26 a mere formality.
TP Mazembe are currently leading DR Congo’s Linafoot league and they are one of the teams that were given a go ahead to the second preliminary round. Ondo is not taking the match lightly and has warned his charges to ensure they give 100 percent.
“We are taking them seriously. I have studied them and I know they are not easy opponents,” the coach concluded.
