African Champions League: Gor Mahia Suffer Huge Midfielder Blow

Gor Mahia captain Keneth Muguna is set to miss his side’s African Champions League against CR Belouizdad due to an injury.

Gor Mahia captain Keneth Muguna is set to miss his side’s African Champions League against CR Belouizdad due to an injury.

The 23-year-old suffered a muscle injury in K’Ogalo’s 1-2 loss to Tusker FC last week, and indications are that he won’t be ready until at least after four weeks.

Muguna’s injury will come as a huge blow for the record Kenyan Premier League champions who are expected to leave the country on Sunday night to face their Algerian opponents.

As reported by Goal.com, Muguna was not among the players who will be travelling with the team, in what will be a significant boost for Belouizdad ahead of Wednesday’s game in Algiers.

“Yes, I will not be part of the team that will play Belouizdad in the Champions League,” said Muguna.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“I still have a problem with my ribs, and the game has come too soon for me. These are the types of games I would love to be involved in but this time around I will have to cheer them from my home.”[/perfectpullquote]

Gor has a poor away record against North African teams and has not won any away game in the past three seasons it has played against clubs from Morocco, Algeria and Egypt.

“This is going to be a tricky game considering the fact that we are playing away,” Muguna continued.

“However, I am hopeful we will get a positive outcome. The team has enough players who can replace me and still do the job effectively.”

CR Belouizdad booked a date to meet Gor Mahia after they beat Al-Nasr from Libya 4-0 on aggregate. The Algerian champions won the first leg away in Tripoli 2-0 and returned home to complete the job with another 2-0 win.

For K’Ogalo, they qualified for the next phase of the competition after they managed to secure a 4-3 aggregate win against APR of Rwanda in a two-legged affair.

Gor have been training at Camp Toyoyo as they look forward to a good result in Algeria then finish off the job at home and hope to qualify for the moneyed group stage.
