The first leg of the preliminary round of the 2020/2021 African Champions League took place over the weekend with some amazing score lines.
On Saturday, seven matches were played with Kenyan champions Gor Mahia suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Rwandan side APR, while Jwaneng Galaxy overcame US de Zilimadjou from Comoros 4-0.
Elsewhere, Libya’s Al Benghazi were given a walkover following the withdrawal of Mekelle Endrata of Ethiopia from the competition.
FC Platinum of Zimbabwe defeated Costa do Sol of Mozambique 2-1 in the match played at Zimpeto Stadium in Maputo.
The biggest win of the day belonged to CS Sfaxien who thrashed Zanzibar champions 5-0, while the surprise result was registered by little-known Beninese outfit Buffles who held MC Alger of Algeria to a one-all draw.
On Sunday, thirteen matches were played instead of 14. Djibouti’s GR SIAF failed to travel to Chad to face Gazelle.
South African giants Kaizer Chiefs claimed a valuable 1-0 first-leg win over Cameroon’s Elite One champions PWD Bamenda.
There were also wins for Nkana, Petro Atletico, Stade Malien and Simba ahead of the second leg, while there was a draw for Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko who held Mauritanian champions FC Nouadhibou to a 1-1 draw.
