French-born Victor Zvunka has been sacked as head coach of African club CS Chebba, Ducor Sports understands.
The erstwhile Nimes and Toulouse tactician was hired to occupy the managerial seat of CS Chebba, a North African club.
The 67-year-old’s arrival in July was seen as a huge statement of intent for Chebba, a newly promoted club in the Tunisian Premier League.
It was hoped that Zvunka was the ideal man to ensure the newcomers’ retention in the top tier and perhaps make an audacious pursuit of silver in the following term.
However, what started out as a new dawn has turned sour for Victor, an insider tells Ducor Sports, after being relieved of his coaching duties having failed to reach a common ground with his employers, slamming their season ambition as “unrealistic”.
A behind closed doors meeting was staged in which President Taoufik Mkacher met the 67-yar-old gaffer to outline their expectations of him. But disagreement surfaced with Mkacher reported being unwilling to compromise on his demands later culminating into a parting of ways.
A statement from the club did not bother to explain the reason for the decision to let go Victor and instead pinned it down to “personal reasons”.
“Following this decision, Mr. Taoufik Mkacher, on his personal behalf and the names of all members of the committee, would like to thank Mr Victor Zvunka for his work, for his participation in the selection of the players, for all efforts that he provided during the preparation period, for the discipline he imposed on the team, for his seriousness and dedication,” a dispatch from the Tunisian outfit read.
Club chairmen in North Africa are known to be trigger-happy and the firing of Victor -a day before the start of the league -after only 54 days in charge, stands to contest in one of the fastest dismissals so far.
Chebba were scheduled to play on yesterday against Hammam-Lif but the tie was postponed.
Zvunka’s void will be filled by technical director Othman Chaibi with Mohamed Ameur Hizem as his understudy until a permanent replacement is found.
The departing French manager only vacated Club Africain in February.
