African Players in the UEFA Champions League Qualifiers

It’s two goals in two consecutive UEFA Champions League qualifiers for Ghana’s Patrick Twusumi. Plying his trade with Astana, the three-time Kazakhstan Premier League title winner raced his club ahead with a delectable opener in the second-half but visitors and Latvia’s Spartaks Jūrmala, leveled matters. Despite the draw, Astana still goes through to the third round.

Elsewhere, South Africa’s Dino Ndlovu wasn’t on target for his Azerbaijan side Qarabag, but starred in the league leader’s narrow away win over Georgia’s Samtredia to breeze into the next round of the qualifiers.

Guinea-Bissau’s Babacarr Balde featured for the losing side in what was his debut game for the Georgians following his move from Portuguese side, Mirande.

Nigeria’s Ohiremen Ajayi was only deemed fit for the bench as Croatia’s outfit Rijeka mauled The New Saints of Wales 5-1 to complete a 7-1 final aggregate.

Guinea’s Kassim Doumbia formed the core FH’s defense as they sailed past Vikingur 1-0 in the second half to make for a 3-1 aggregate to seal a place in the third round qualifiers.

32-year-old Nigerian attacker Adeshina Abayomi Lawal, got minutes under his belt for the losing club from the Faroe Islands.
