African Trio To Officiate Quarterfinal Match Between Great Britain, Australia

Three female African FIFA referees will Friday take charge of the quarterfinal match between Great Britain and Australia in the women’s Olympic football.

Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga, Malawi’s Bernadettar Kwimbira and Kenya’s Mary Njoroge are the African trio who have been designated for the second quarterfinal match. Brazil’s Alves Edina will serve as the fourth official.

This will be the first time for an African trio to officiate a quarterfinal match at a Women’s Olympic Football tournament.

Rwanda’s referee Mukansanga will serve a centre referee, and will be ably assisted by Malawi’s Kwimbira as first assistant referee and Kenya’s Njoroge as second assistant referee.

This will be the trio’s third game at the ongoing 2020 Olympic Games. They officiated the first match of the tournament between Great Britain and Chile on July 21, 2021 and a Group F match between Netherlands and China on Tuesday.
