Africans in EPL Round-up: Salah, Mane Help Down City

A round up of African players performance in the English Premier League.

Red-hot African pair Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane each found the back of the net in table-toppers Liverpool’s 3-1 slaying of Manchester City as Egypt-born Trezeguet Mahmoud nabbed a consolation in Aston Villa’s 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EPL today.

Salah grabbed the Anfield side’s second after Fabinho had raced them ahead before Mane ensured he wasn’t left out in the goal galore, his seventh this season.

Nigeria’s Leon-Adremi Balogun impotently watched from the bench as Manchester United hammered Brighton 3-1. His compatriot Wilfred Ndidi was a workaholic in second-placed Leicester City’s 2-0 humbling of Arsenal.

Ivory Coast’s Nicolas Pepe came off the bench in the 77the minute for Holding while Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starred from the start for the Gunners.

Over to the White Hart Lane, Ivory Coast’s Serge Aurier had to be hauled off four minutes from game’s end in Tottenham’s 1-1 stalemate with Sheffield United.

Alex Iwobi was only considered valuable for inclusion in the tie against Southampton in the 74th minute for the tired legs of Theo Walcott as Everton wriggled out of a fight they narrowly won 2-1.

Ghana’s Christian Atsu was shoved in as a last-gasp substitute to kill off the minutes by Newcastle United in the St James’ Park outfit’s 2-1 triumph over AFC Bournemouth.

Wilfried Zaha and Ghana duo Jordan Ayew and Jeffery Schlupp all got playing minutes but they couldn’t fend off Chelsea from beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Stamford Bridge.
