The New Leicester signing Ahmed Musa introduced himself to the Foxes fans last night as they played Barcelona in their International Champions Cup fixture last night. The Nigerian forward proved he is worth the club-record £16.6 million. Leicester used to lure him to the Premier League as he put up a dominant performance against the La Liga champions.
A brace from 20-year-old El Haddadi Munir and a goal from Luis Suarez had seen a far distant Leicester trailing by three goals in the first half. Leicester responded after the break with the introduction of Musa in the 46th minute who scored two successive goals to see them reduce the lead to one. From a Shinji Okazaki pass, Musa outpaced and striped three Barcelona players from the center half and kept his calm to make score an excellent goal just two minutes after coming on. He went on to score his second after he drilled a pass from Jeffrey Schlupp into the top left corner in the 66th minute.
The pacey forward continued to prove to be a real danger as he was brought down in the box by Javier Mascherano but the referee signaled the game to go on. Rafa Mujica then swept a finish high into the corner in the 84th minute to put the game away from the foxes reach.
Musa ended the night with the Man of the Match prize in a match that had the likes of Suarez and five-time world best player Lionel Messi despite the 4-2 loss.
Leicester proved they still have what it takes to compete with the top English clubs after they went toe to toe with the La Liga giants. This game acted as a much-needed confidence booster after losing 4-0 in their last match against PSG.
The entertaining encounter is Leicester’s pre-season game as they prepare for their FA Community Shield clash with Manchester United at Wembley Stadium slated for Sunday 7th August.
