AL Ahly Board Will Not Effect Pay Cuts

Al Ahly’s board has announced that it will not be effecting pay-cuts on the club players despite the financial challenges associated with the coronavirus pandemic.

Al Ahly’s board has announced that it will not be effecting pay-cuts on the club players despite the financial challenges associated with the coronavirus pandemic.

With the Egyptian Premier League suspended, clubs have been looking at alternative ways of reducing their expenditure but on Tuesday, the Cairo giants board revealed none of their players was going to see even a coin subtracted from his salary.

“The board reviewed the club’s resources in light of the current suspension and the club’s large monthly commitments and decided that it’s going to pay the entire salaries of employees and workers at the club,” reads a statement on Ahly’s website.

“The decision has been taken so that they can fulfil their needs and commitments in these hard circumstances, especially with the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan,” adds the statement.

“The board will also pay the entire wages of players and all staff members in all sports for the next four months starting from 1 April to 1 July.”

Pyramids were the first club in Egyptian top-flight league to announce pay cuts from their players and used the money to help donate medical supplies.

On the other side, Al Ittihad saw their coach Talaat Youssef and his technical staff give up half of their pay since football activities were suspended in the country.

Also, Arab Contractors Club announced last week that it was cutting this month’s salaries of first-team players and staff by 50 per cent to be able to pay the employees’ wages.

Prior to the league’s suspension, Al Ahly were leading the league table, 16 points ahead of their nearest rivals, second-placed Arab Contractors.
