Al Ahly Book CAF Champions League Semi-Final Spot

Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly drew 1-1 in the 20202/2021 CAF Champions League quarter-final second-leg match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win sees the Egyptian giants qualify for the semi-finals after winning the tie on a 3-1 on aggregate.

The first-leg match had ended 2-1 in Cairo last weekend and Sundowns were targeting a 3-0 win against record African champions.

Peter Shalulile squandered a glorious chance to hand Sndowns the lead after two minutes, when he blazed over the crossbar from inside the area.

Al Ahly went ahead on the 11 th minute after Lebusa conceded a corner that was taken nodded in by Yasser Ibrahim for the opener.

Mohammed Sherif  missed a glorious opening to hand the visitors the second in 25th minute, as he fired over the crossbar from close range, after being picked out by Badr Banoun.

Sundowns netted an equalizer in 31st minute as Mosa Lebusa rose well to head home Aubrey Modiba’s delivery past goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy.

After an entertaining opening 45 minutes, the score remained 1-1 for both sides at the break.

Lebusa seemed to be Al Ahly’s main threat for most of the encounter and he nearly doubled his tally in the 53rd when he forced El Shenawy into a fine save.

The Brazilians charges pushed for a winning goal in the final 20 minutes, as they struck the crossbar, while Themba Zwane forced El Shenawy into a good stop.

Denis Onyango came to Sundowns’s rescue in the 79th minute, as the shot-stopper produced a good save to keep out Juniro Ajayi’s strike from distance.

Both sides had chances to win the game in the final stages of the second half, with Taher Mohamed being denied by Onyango, while Gift Motupa missed a chance of his won.
