Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has expressed his displeasure over his side’s 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in Saturday’s African Champions League match.
Thapelo Morena’s 85th minute goal is all what the Brazilians needed to bag all three points on Saturday as they edged closer to the quarter-finals.
Coach Mosimane in an interview with the club website disclosed the disappointment of the entire Al Ahly family over the slim defeat at the Cairo International Stadium.
“Of course, we are very sad about the result. It’s a match that I didn’t want to lose. It’s part of football. These things happen in football,” the coach said.
“I can’t blame the team. We had many opportunities to score. I always knew that if we had any threat it will come from counter attacks.”
The Al Ahly gaffer who believes the result could have gone either ways as both teams played equally went on to congratulate their visitors Sundowns on their victory.
“I congratulate Mamelodi Sundowns on winning today’s game. I think we have to qualify through the hardest way. We have to try and win in South Africa. We can do that,” the South African gaffer added.
“I will always ask CAF to use VAR throughout the whole competition. The opponent’s goalkeeper used his hand to save the ball from outside of the box. Also, I believe Tau was onside when he scored.”
Al Ahly will meet Sundowns in the reverse fixture in South Africa on the weekend of 11-12 March.
