Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane hailed his charges following their 3-0 victory over AS Vita in match-day four of African Champions League group stages action.
The Red Devils failed to win their previous two games in Group A, losing 1-0 to Tanzania’s Simba SC before drawing 2-2 with Congolese side, AS Vita at home.
On Tuesday, Mohamed Sherif, Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Taher Mohamed Taher scored the goals that secured the three points and according to Moismane he could only thank his boys for digging deep for the result.
“We had a great game and we managed to score from the chances which we created. We were dominant and controlled the tempo of the game from the start,” Mosimane told the club website.
“I was sure that we will win the game. Al Ahly have many talented players who are capable of overcoming any difficulties. We have an amazing generation of players who won the treble last season and achieved the FIFA Club World Cup bronze medal.
“I am not saying this because of today’s victory, I said the same after our match against AS Vita Club in Cairo which ended in a 2-2 draw.
“Football always gives us beautiful lessons. We had a lot of clear chances in Cairo and we were held to a draw; while today we had fewer chances but we won 3-0.”
The victory see the record African champions move to seven points, three clear of the Congolese side.
“We faced difficult circumstances in DR Congo. We played under hot weather, high humidity and on an artificial turf. However, we never search for execuses and we always play to win,” added Mosimane.
With two rounds of matches left to play, Ahly have primed themselves to fight for a slot in the last eight despite dropping points in two back to back matches.
Next for Al Ahly is a tie against Sudan’s Al Merrikh who haven’t had the best of starts in this season’s African Champions League.
