It was an evenly contested affair in the opening exchanges, with both sides seeing a bit of the ball, although chances were hard to come by.
That proved to be the theme for the opening 20 minutes, with the only bit of entertainment coming from Al Ahly’s Mohamed Sherif with his skillful touches.

Sherif then squandered a glorious chance shortly after the halftime break, when he placed his effort wide of the upright from six-yards out, after being teed up by Mohamed Afsha.
Juan Pedro Benali’s men started to dictate play, as the likes of Labri Naji and Zaid Krouch looked lively in the middle of the park.
However, Al Ahly broke the deadlock on the 57th minute courtesy of Mohamed Sherif who collected a pass from defender Mokadem then spinning around him before hitting a powerful left-foot shot into the far corner of the net.
It proved to be a busy evening for Laaroubi, as he pulled off another fine save to deny Ali Maaloul from point blank range in the 66th minute.
He had to be at his best in the 72nd minute, as he pulled off a superb save to keep out Ayman Ashraf’s powerful free-kick.
