Al Ahly midfielder Saleh Gomaa has tested positive for coronavirus, the Egyptian Premier League champions have announced.
The 27-year-old player is said to be in good health and adhering to self-isolation guidelines.
Gomaa is set to miss Al Ahly’s African Champions League final against Zamalek on November 27, as well as Egypt Cup quarter-final clash against Abu Qir on Saturday.
The Red Devils winger Mahmoud Kahraba has also tested positive just one week before their clash against the White Knights.
A statement from the Al Ahly said; “Saleh Gomaa is following the medical program according to the health ministry’s protocol after he tested positive for coronavirus.
“The players will undergo another PCR test in the upcoming hours to make sure of the results of the first test.”
Gomaa returned to Al Ahly starting line-up recently following the appointment of South African coach Pitso Motismane.
He joined Al Ahly in 2015 from ENPPI as young a prospect and had a promising start to his career with the Reds.
He was previously linked with a move away, with several rumors suggesting a move to arch rivals Zamalek, something his handlers denied.
Gomaa has made 78 appearances across all competitions for Al Ahly since joining them, scoring 17 goals and providing 13 assists. He also helped them win four Egyptian Premier League titles and two Egypt Cups.
