Recently crowned African champions Al Ahly have parted ways with midfielder Saleh Gomaa with immediate effect.

Recently crowned African champions Al Ahly have parted ways with midfielder Saleh Gomaa with immediate effect.

Gomaa’s future had been the subject of speculation since the arrival of South African coach Pitso Mosimane, who preferred to keep the former ENNPI player warming  the bench.

The Red Devils have reportedly issued a statement on the midfielder, arguing that discussions for the termination of Gomaa’s contract began at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old leaves Al Ahly having featured 78 times across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 13 assists.

He also helped them win four Egyptian Premier League titles and two Egypt Cups.

His departure comes just ten days after Al Ahly announced that the player had tested positive of the novel coronavirus which forced him to miss African Champions League final against Zamalek played on Friday.

Gomaa joined Al Ahly in 2015 from ENPPI as young a prospect and had a promising start to his career with the Reds.

He was previously linked with a move away, with several rumors suggesting a move to arch rivals Zamalek, something his handlers denied.
