Defending champions Al Ahly will look to open their Group A in the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League with a win away Al Hilal Omdurman at the Al Hilal Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Kick-off is at 13h00 GMT.
The Red Devils and Blue Wave have met no less than seven times in this competition in the past four and a bit years, striking up a fierce rivalry which has even spilt into off-pitch fisticuffs on occasion.
Al Ahly come into the game on the back of a 4-0 win against Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal in a Club World Cup match a fortnight ago.
The Egyptian champions defender Ramy Rabai is confident the side will get a positive result when they face the Omdurman-based side
“The FIFA Club World Cup is now over and we are currently concentrated on Al Hilal’s game. This will be our first game in the group stage of the competition and we are determined to achieve a positive result,” said Al Ahly defender Ramy Rabia in a pre-match conference on Thursday.
Al Hilal, meanwhile, opened their Group A on a bad note as they lost 1-0 away to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.
The Sudanese giants will be looking for their first win against the Red Devils in recent years after a 1-1 stalemate in February 2020 that saw Al Ahly secure second spot in their group.
The match between the two sides will be played in an empty stadium after the Confederation of African Football rejected Al Hilal’s request to have 15,000 supporters attend the game.
