Egyptian Champions Al Ahly are to appoint former Argentina International Ramon Diaz to fill the vacant head coach position following the resignation of Hossam El-Badry.
Hossam El-Badry who led the side to the Egyptian Premier League title was forced to resign last week after failing to register a win in four consecutive matches.
The rare disappointing run of results started with a 2-1 defeat to Zamalek in the Egyptian PL before they were knocked out by Assiouty Sport in the quarter finals of the Egyptian Cup.
Their winless run continued at the continental level as they drew against Esperance de Tunis in their first Champions league game before losing to KCCA last Tuesday.
Ramon Diaz who coached Paraguay from 2014-16 comes in with over thirteen years of management experience at the top level. Other than Paraguay, has led a number of teams including River Plate, CF America, San Lorenzo, Oxford United, Independente, and Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal.
Ramon is well known for getting results, and is exactly what the Red Devils need to point their star studded squad to the right direction. During his three tenures as River Plate manager, he guided the Argentine club to eight titles including the Copa Libertadores and Supercopa Sudamericana.
While at Al Hilal last year, the former Napoli and Monaco player led the side to a domestic double winning the Saudi Arabian League title and Cup, in addition to taking them to the AFC Champions League Final.
Diaz’s immediate task will be to revive Al Ahly’s title campaign after a slow start that left them bottom of group A with one point from two games. His first match in charge will be against Township Rollers CAF champions League in mid-July.
