Reigning African champions Al Ahly have been pitted against Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-finals of the 2020/21 CAF Champions League.
The draw for the Africa’s premier club football tournament was conducted at CAF headquarters in Cairo on Friday afternoon.
The Red Devils were always going to face difficult African sides after finishing second in Group A of the competition.
Pitso Mosimane’s charges will have to travel to Pretoria for the first leg before hosting the South African champions in Tshwane in the return leg.
Last season, Al Ahly lifted their record-ninth CAF Champions League trophy and are looking to win only their tenth continental crown later this year.
In other quarter final pairings, Sundowns’ rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, have been draw against Simba Sports Club of Tanzania in another clash which is likely to produce fireworks.
MC Alger will face Wydad Casablanca in the other match. The two sides are former African champions and these promises to be an exciting affair.
Lastly, Esperance de Tunis, who are four-time African champions, will face CR Belouizdad of Algeria for a place in semi-finals.
The first-leg ties will take place between 14-15 May which will be hosted by the group runners-up before the return leg matches scheduled for 21-22 May.
The winner between Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns will face the winner between CR Belouizdad and Esperance de Tunis.
This means the winner between Simba Sports Club and Kaizer Chiefs will come up against the winners between MC Alger and Wydad Casablanca.
