Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek have learned their 2020/2021 African Champions League opponents.
The group stage draw was conducted in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Friday afternoon and split the qualifiers into four groups with each club facing their three rivals home and away.
Al Ahly, who are the reigning champions, will be up against AS Vita (DR Congo), El Merreikh (Sudan) and Tanzania’s Simba Sports Club in Group A.
The Red Devils qualified for group stages after beating 5-0 aggregate win over Niger’s outfit Sonidep.
As for Zamalek, they were drawn in a tough Group D alongside group debutants Teungueth (Senegal), MC Alger (Algeria) and Tunisia’s Esperance du Tunis.
The White Knights qualified to the group stages without kicking the ball as their Chadian opponents Gazelle were disqualified from the tournament after failing to honor the first leg match.
The remaining two groups also included many African powerhouses with Group B containing five-time champions TP Mazembe, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Sudan’s Al Hilal and CR Belouzidad of Algeria.
Meanwhile Group C will see southern Africa duo of Kaizer Chiefs and Petro Athletico fighting for qualification alongside Guinean giants Horoya AC and 2017 African Champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.
The group winners and runners-up will qualify for quarter-finals with the first group matches scheduled for 12/13 February 2021.
