Al Merrikh Start Training Ahead of Sudan Premier League Resumption

Sudan Premier League giants Al Merrikh have announced their return to training ahead of the resumption of the 2019/20 season.

Sudan Premier League giants Al Merrikh have announced their return to training ahead of the resumption of the 2019/20 season.

The campaign has been suspended since mid-March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the government has given the league a go-ahead to complete the suspended season.

The Red Devils released the statement on Tuesday afternoon indicating they have followed all protocols for a safe return to training as stipulated by the new regulations.

“Al Merrikh first team has resumed training in preparations for Sudan Premier League. The team performed endurance sessions under the watch of physical trainer Thomas Moyer,” reads the statement as translated from Arabic.

“The German trainer conducted a safe and secure group training session at Al-Merrikh Stadium, where authorities made sure we followed all the necessary health measures put up by the government.”

Most of Sudan Premier League players and officials have already undergone the first round of tests and clubs are also expected to fumigate their training facilities.

Al Merrikh will be looking to continue moving up on the South Sudan Premier League standings when the season resumes on August 15.

The Red Devils are placed second with 48 points after 22 games while Al Hilal Omdurman sits at the top of the SPL table with 51 points.
