Algerian Club Chairman to Resort to CAS over Suspension

Suspended Algerian Premier League club JSK Kabylie’s chairman Cherif Mellal has vowed to resort to the Court of Arbitration for Sports in a bid to have his suspension lifted.

Suspended Algerian Premier League club JSK Kabylie’s chairman Cherif Mellal has vowed to resort to the Court of Arbitration for Sports in a bid to have his suspension lifted.

Cherif is serving a six-month ban imposed on him  by the North African country’s domestic league Organising Committee (OC) over comments they consider to be “scandalous.”

The JSK boss incurred the wrath of the OC after launching a stinging attack, labeling them a bunch of “mafias” following his accusations the organisers collaborated to leapfrog his club from the first position – a spot they’ve occupied since start of the campaign until recently.

Mellal appeared before the Algerian football federation after being asked to explain his words, spewed, apparently, out of rage.

The disciplinary committee took a firm step on Monday to reduce the suspension to three months which goes against the chairman’s anticipation for the ban to be lifted.

However, the local club supremo is not pleased with the outcome and has vowed to take to CAS hoping to get justice done on his case.

“I have learned that the sanction imposed on me was reduced to three months. Sincerely, I do not accept and if it’s like that, then I’ll take to the CAS,” he said.

JSK are second-placed in the Algerian league having been leapfrogged by USM Algers.
