Algerian Club’s Chairman Wants His Suspension Lifted

Algerian domestic league club JSK Kabylie’s chairman Cherif Mellal wants an end to the current ban imposed on him.

Algerian domestic league club JSK Kabylie’s chairman Cherif Mellal wants an end to the current ban imposed on him.

Mellal had a run-in with the Algerian Premier League’s Organising Committee (OC) after accusing it of being a “mafia group” and for deliberately causing his second-placed JSK Kabylie to relinquish the top spot – a position they had occupied from the start of the season until recently.

Predictably, Cherif’s comments had the OC seething who, in reaction, slapped a hefty suspension on the chairman from all related football activities. The supremo is insistent he’s right and lodged a complaint to FIFA who asked the Algerian FA to mediate the issue.

Consequently, Mellal was invited at the federation and appeared before its commission to explain his position in a saga that started sometime last month.

Days following the meeting, the chairman expects the suspension imposed on him lifted with immediate effect.

“I do not want a suspended sentence, I asked that there be no sanction against me,” he said, adding, “Indeed, I appeared before the appeals commission of FAF (Algerian Football Federation) and I defended properly my file. I asked that my sanction be definitively lifted because nobody has the right to sanction me.”

The Football House is due to pass judgment either Sunday or Monday.

Meanwhile, JSK have returned from a trip to Morocco during the season-break where they faced the capital-based FUS Rabat in an exhibition game.
