Algerian Midfielder Adlene Guedioura Happy To Join Sheffield

Algerian midfielder Adlene Guedioura is in cloud nine after completing a move to English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday from Qatar Stars League side Al-Gharafa Sports Club.

Guedioura score two goals in 35 appearances at Al-Gharafa since joining in 2018, and makes a return to England after leaving Nottingham Forest two seasons ago.

The 35-year-old Desert Foxes international is expected to make his debut on Tuesday in his new club’s Championship game against Preston.

Speaking to the club media, Guedioura, who signed a one-year contract with the Blades after training at Shirecliffe for a number of weeks, said; “I’m very pleased to have signed and I can’t wait to play for the team. It’s something special for me to come back to the UK, so I am really happy.

“I’d like to thank the manager and the club for allowing me to come to train and have the opportunity to show what I can do. I am really happy to end up with a contract now until the end of the season, so I am up for the challenge and ready to start.”

Guedioura started his career at Sedan, Noisy-le-Sec, L’Entente SSG and Creteil before a spell in Belgium with Kortrijk and Charleroi before joining Wolves.

He also turned for Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough, clocked up 218 appearances in English football.

Guedioura  received his first international recognition when he was included in Algeria’s preliminary squad for the 2010 World Cup, and went on to make his international debut on 28 May 2010 in a 0–3 defeat to Ireland.
