Algeria’s Walid Derrardja has denied being a football cheat.
The 28-year-old has come under torrents of accusations, mainly from supporters, that he does not work hard for the team.
In his fourth season at the capital side, the striker has managed only a single goal in fifteen cameos as he sits on the peripheries nursing an injury.
His statistics this season haven’t been impressive compared to the ten goals he notched the previous campaign, hence the claims.
And taking his time to address the allegations, he said: “I have heard the claim and it shocked me. Since moving in Mouloudia, all our fans know that I am not a cheater, my jerseys are always soaked with sweat. Those who spread these are out to tarnish my image. Why did they not say the same thing when I was among the players to have played most games last season?”
The goal-getter sustained an injury which has ruled him out of action since March 9th and is not expected to return until next month.
The duration of his absence has sparked fears he might get to miss out on the derby with arch-rivals Nasaria.
“Since I have been out injured I’m under the care of doctors. I’m feeling better and better each day. I’m only waiting for the doctor’s nod to resume training,” he said.
MC Alger are a little way off the chase for the main title with ten points between them and league leaders USM Alger.
