Gaffer Aliou Cisse admits it was a tough march to the quarter-finals for his side against The Cranes of Uganda.

It required a lone goal from skipper Sadio Mane to book the West Africans a ticket to the quarter-finals, sending the Liverpool attacker’s goal tally in the ongoing Total Africa Cup of Nations to three.

Mane bulleted in a left-footed effort in the 15th minute after Mbaye Niang turned provider which slalomed past Onyango in goal for Uganda.

Senegal were tipped as favourites in the lead up to the game but Cisse, while grateful for the narrow win, insists there are no longer small teams in Africa.

“Uganda game was tough as there are no small teams anymore in Africa. All teams can win and we have to be always ready,” the ex-Taranga captain-turned coach said in the immediate aftermath of the game.

“We trust Sadio Mane much and he was one of the reasons we qualified today. He will remain number 1 for penalties. We have to prepare well for the next game.”

“We are a team that looks for win whoever our opponent is,” he said.
