The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has written to their Ethiopian counterparts seeking for a friendly match during the next FIFA break, sources have confirmed.
FERWAFA wants a friendly match that will be held in Kigali and are ready to cover all expenses but the Ethiopia Football Federation is yet to react to the request.
According to the source at FERWAFA, the football governing body is ready to cover the expenses of the Ethiopian delegation as well as pay the East African nation undisclosed amount of dollars as a bonus.
The Ethiopia Football Federation has refused to comment on the information as all eyes are set for the November’s back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Chad.
On Sunday, Rwanda national team head coach Vincent Mahami hinted that they are seeking for a friendly with a team from the region before their November’s double-header against Cape Verde.
“We want to play a friendly match before we face Cape Verde, but an opponent for the match is yet to be confirmed,” Mashami told New Times.
“Players have been out of action – due to Coronavirus – for a long time, it is important that we secure a friendly encounter before we resume competitive matches. Hopefully, we will get a team to play in the region.”
At first, there were plans for a match in the Middle East but the possibility of playing at a neutral ground was put on hold due to financial challenges.
Rwanda were scheduled to face Cape Verde in back-to-back Nations qualifiers in March 2020, but the matches were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Rwanda are bottom of Group F with zero points after losing 2-0 to Mozambique in Maputo and 1-0 to Cameroon in Kigali in their second match of the qualifiers.
Mozambique and Cameroon jointly top the group with 4 points, while Cape Verde are third with two points.
