Amazulu Cut Ties With Zimbabwean Midfielder

South Africa Premier Soccer League side Amazulu have ended their marriage with Zimbabwean midfielder Ovidy Karuru on mutual consent, the club has confirmed.

South Africa Premier Soccer League side Amazulu have ended their contract with Zimbabwean midfielder Ovidy Karuru on mutual consent, the club has confirmed.

Karuru has been with Amazulu for two seasons and leaves the Durban-based side after joining from Kaizer Chiefs. Club manager Lunga Sokhela thanked the player for the services he offered the club during his stay.

“Amazulu FC and Zimbabwean international attacking midfielder, Ovidy Karuru have reached a mutual agreement for the termination of his contract with immediate effect,” a statement said.

“We thank Ovidy for his time with us and wish him all the best in his career,” Usuthu general manager Lunga Sokhela added.

According to reports, Karuru might remain in South Africa with a host of clubs including Black Leopards interested in him after rejecting a move to back to Zimbabwe where he was to join local league champions FC Platinum.

The 30-year-old left Harare in 2009 to join French side, Boulogne, though he left them in 2012 after the club were relegated to join Leuven.

However, Karuru fell out with Leuven’s former head coach, Ivan Leko, and endured a difficult spell on the sidelines before ending his contract with the Belgian Pro League.

The player then made a move to South Africa where he joined Kaizer Chiefs before joining Usuthu as a free agent and went on and made a total of 76 appearances, scoring six goals and assisting a further six.

His last game for Amazulu was the Absa Premiership’s 0-0 draw with Maritzburg United on December 1.

Amazulu’s next league match is against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday, 22 December 2019.
