Racing Club Strasbourg’s interest in the Amines winger Gael Kakuta is to prompt a bid for DR Congo international, most likely after the resumption of French Ligue 1 which is currently suspended due to coronavirus.
Kakuta, who has scored two goals and made five assists in 24 appearances for the Unicorns this season, is aware of the Le Racing’s interest but is not agitating to leave.
The 28-year-old will instead gauge Amines’ reaction to any offer that is tabled, it would have to exceed £6m for a player who is contracted until 2022, and then scrutinise what personal terms Strasbourg would put forward to entice him to Stade de la Meinau.
Several clubs including Marseille and Blackburn Rovers are also reportedly eyeing Kakuta as it is certain that he won’t remain with Amiens if they are relegated to Ligue 2.
Kakuta re-joined Amines in July 2017 from Spanish outfit Rayo Vallecano in which it was the 12th professional club of his career.
He had played for Amines on loan in the 2017-18 season when he scored six goals and made six assists in 36 appearances.
The Lille-born player began his career as a youth in Lens before a contentious move to Chelsea in 2007 when he was just 16.
He played just six Premier League games for the Blues before embarking on a series of loan deals, finally leaving in 2015 for Sevilla, Hebei China Fortune and Rayo Vallecano.
A youth player for France up to Under 21 level, Kakuta made the first of five senior appearances for Democratic Republic of Congo in a friendly against Kenya in March 2017.
Kakuta did not feature in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after sustaining a ligament injury.
