Amir Abdou Appointed As New Mauritania Coach

Former Comoros national team head coach Amir Abdou has been appointed to lead Mauritania, Ducor Sports reveals.

The Franco-Comorian tactician, who resigned as Comoros coach seven days ago, was confirmed by Mauritania Football Association during a press conference held in Nouakchott on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old replaces Didier Gomes Da Rosa, who was sacked on Tuesday. Abdou was among more than 80 coaches who applied for the Mauritania position.

The Mauritania Football Association confirmed Abdou who is currently in Western Mauritania, will sign a contract when he arrives in Nouakchott on Saturday.

Abdou quit the Comoros job in a huff after his demands to have an improved remuneration was turned down by the Comorian government.

He was appointed Comoros coach in n January 2014 and led Comoros to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals where they reached the Round of 16.

During his eight years stay, Abdou saw Comoros rise from 198 out of 207  FIFA members when Abdou to 131 in the latest FIFA rankings.

The former Nouadhibou’s coach main task now is to help qualify the Mourabitounes to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
