Al Ahly midfielder Ammar Hamdy will not participate in the FIFA Club World Cup in United Arab Emirates after sustaining a collateral ligament injury.
The 22-year-old picked the injury during his team’s training match on Thursday ahead of the Egyptian giants opener against Mexican outfit C.F. Monterrey.
Hamdy’s injury is a blow to Pitso Mosimane’s men who must negotiate their way past the Monterrey on Saturday to reach the semifinal of the competition.
The former Al Nasr player is yet another Red Devils player to pick up an injury in the camp after Percy Tau, Salah Mohsen and Badr Benoun.
The record CAF Champions League title holders will also be without six players who are on international duty with Egypt in the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Al Ahly will also be without coach Pitso Mosimane on the touchline after he tested positive of the coronavirus.
Ahly currently lead the Egyptian Premier League table with 19 points from seven games, with one game still in hand.
