Andre Onana Brings Electricity To His Village

Andre Onana has connected the entire village with the basic amenity of electricity, the first connection since 1980.

Andre Onana is known around the world as the best goalkeeper for Dutch giants Ajax and the Cameroon national team.

But the 24-year-old’s philanthropic gestures to his compatriots in his native Cameroon never get media attention despite benefiting thousands of folks across the central Africa country.

Onana has in the past completed various projects in his mother’s village of Ossoesame including offering education sponsorship for the needy students.

In his latest gesture to the community, the Samuel Eto’o Academy graduate has connected the entire village with the basic amenity of electricity, the first connection since 1980.

According to Daily News Cameroon, the Ossoesame village is located 12 km from Mengueme and Onana’s grandmother is one of the beneficiaries of the electricity project.

Meanwhile, Onana, who recently renewed his contract with the Ajax until 2022, could be on his way out as the club, with latest transfer gossip linking him with Chelsea.

Ajax reportedly values the custodian at €40 million but with the market hitting a low due to the pandemic, they might be forced to accept what the Blues will be offering.

Onana has shone in the Eredivisie, showing himself to be one of the finest shot-stoppers in Europe. It is worth noting that in April he expressed his desire to make a switch away from the club.

The Cameroon international started out his career at youth level with Barcelona in 2010 before moving to Ajax in 2014 where he has been the mainstay since the 2016-17 season, playing 178 times in all competitions and keeping 74 clean sheets.
