Angry Algerian Supporters Attack Club President over Champions League Defeat

The president of Algerian side JS Kabylie’s Cheriff Mellal was the subject of insults following his club’s loss in Morocco.

Reports in Rabat say controversial chairman Mellal’s fall out with fans began even before the start of the game after a couple of supporters attacked him hurling foul-mouthed rants at the team’s hotel.

Footage of what happened soon went viral as the animosity welled up.

Reaching the Champions League quarter-finals has been the Algerian league vice-champions target this season.

And ensuring this is realised, the Green players were offered cash as match bonuses and paid two months’ salary to motivate them to pick at least a point in Morocco.

However, matters didn’t go as planned after Ben Malango and Soufiane Rahimi both netted, condemning the visitors to a 2-0 defeat, a result which didn’t go down well with the travelling fans.

Local Moroccan security had to escort Kabylie players onboard their team bus to the hotel against their own vexed fans.

The situation, reports say, turned worse when fans disrupted the players’ dinner time by chanting Cheriff Mella’s name and hurling invectives.

JS Kabylie’s official site is yet to comment on the matter.
